When an atomic bomb detonates in Washington D.C., eliminating the entire Presidential line of succession, the U.S. A disputed Presidential election and a spate of domestic terrorism incidents push the United States into increased sectarian squabbling. Shattered Union begins with a premise that hits way too close to home for Americans in these troubled times. Based on the early version we've been playing around with, it's another example of a simple surface with lots of turn-based strategic fun underneath. Perhaps they'll finally get their due once Shattered Union hits store shelves. Once you dug under the surface, though, there was a whole lot of strategy goodness to sink your teeth into. The strategic depths of the two Railroad Tycoon sequels and Tropico were masked by being pegged as business sims, or because they had candy coatings. Maybe it's because they always seem to pick the most unlikely topics to build a strategy game around. ![]() It's amazing to me that PopTop software doesn't get more credit than they do for producing quality strategy games. ![]()
